These are a few shots taken a couple months ago on a fishing trip with the boys from poker.

I celebrated American Independence with American beer.
Lagunitas Lucky 13. A mondo red ale.
76.92 IBU’s & 8.3% alcohol.

It was Beautiful.

It had a nice grassy nose and an incredible melon, floral, grass hop taste. It also had a strong bready malt backbone with a very slight cherry taste.
I love America.
I don’t really have anything to say about this picture. I just like it.
P.S. – Since tomorrow I will hopefully be getting a new one, this may very well be the last blog post I ever do with this computer.

Isn’t that the most adorable thing you ever did see? Of course, the baby’s alright too. She is my goddaughter after all. But Domo…words just can’t describe. I wonder who got her such an adorably thoughtful gift.
This weekend I will have the privilege of putting my godfatherly duties into practice. Audrey gets to get all baptised and stuff. And if you don’t count the actual baptism, it should be a good time.
It’s good. Damn good. Nice floral, grapefruity, slightly grassy hop presence balanced with an acceptable malt backbone. Decent lacing too. It’s great to have an ale from Summit that I want to drink instead of one that I’ll settle for drinking.
So. I’m excited. Summit is releasing a new brew called Horizon Red Ale. It’s about damn time. I have nothing but respect for Summit. They’ve done a hell of a lot for the craft brew industry. However, they’ve fallen behind. Summit needs something to put them back in the runnings. They need to be more competitive. And from what I hear, this new beer might be the answer. I talked to my favorite liquor store guy the other day and he was telling me about all this. He was able to get an early taste of the stuff and he said that it was pretty good. And I trust him. He hasn’t steered me wrong yet. Horizon Red won’t hit liquor stores until the 20th. Tonight though, at 8:00 pm, the founder of Summit Brewing is gonna be at the Groveland Tap (about six blocks from my house) to kick things off. I hope to be there too.
This is one I tried a few weeks ago and forgot about. And not because it was forgettable. On the contrary. It was quite delicious. If you find it anywhere, try it.
Lagunitas is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries. This one is a double IPA with only 7.7% abv. which is a little low for a double. It wasn’t ridiculously sweet (which surprised me since the alcohol was so low) and it had a lot of nice piney/citrusy hop character. Well balanced and delicious.
I fell for the pretty bottle.
This was even odd for English IPAs. It was heavy (yet strangely highly carbonated), sweet and creamy. It didn’t hold it’s head well either. Most of it had dissipated by the time I had finished taking the picture. The hops were very bitter even though they tout dry hopping with cascade. I didn’t get the nice citrus that one would expect from doing so. Over all I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if not for the weird vomitous belgian ale-esque fruity yeast flavor that lingered long after a sip was taken. There’s no room for that kind of shit in IPAs.
Without question the best six pack you can buy for $7.99. It’s beautiful.
This is (as of January) the newest addition to their line of beers that are available year round.
7.2% of citrusy hoppy malty goodness in a glass.
I even got to drink it out of the proper glass ware.
